Do You Really Know God?

Jeremiah 9:23-24

23. “Thus saith the Lord, let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor the strong man glory in his strength, neither the rich man glory in his riches.

24. “But let him that glorieth, glory in this, that he understandith and knoweth me: for I am the Lord which show mercy, judgement, and righteousness in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.”huil

How well do you know the God that you say you believe in? The God that you have entrusted your eternal life? The God that you turn to in times of despair? Most people don’t know him very well. This is very evident because of the way they live. What people say they believe about God is not how they live or often times two different things. The issue is, what image do you gave of God? Is he a God that will overlook your sins? Perhaps he is a God that does not require much of you because you attend church, or say Jesus’ name a lot through the week. What I can tell you is that the same God of the Bible is the same God that is in your life right now. This means from Genesis to Revelation God is active and alive; making promises and keeping them, punishing those who have wronged him, giving clear instructions on how to live a life worthy of having an everlasting relationship with him, all these things are possible still today as it was over 2000 years ago.  Also, he is a never changing God; All through the Bible God is very clear about what he expects of his followers and let me tell you, God will not ever change to suit your life! With that in mind, if he is a never changing God, then he can not require less of you and more of a thief. The expectations are the same for both follower of Christ and non follower.

I believe that people think they can hide their sins from God. There is a voice in our heads, that the Devil is in full control of, that tells us that God won’t care if its a small sin, or he will overlook it this time because it isn’t a big deal. But I am here to tell you that God is omnipresent. That means that God is everywhere all the time. There is nothing you can do to hide from God. There is nothing you can say that God doesn’t know about. Never is there a person in this world that can take a breath without being in the presence of the Lord God. This is such a powerful statement. For the follower of Christ it is great because we rely on God being with us in trying times or in gladness alike. If you are not a follower of Christ I would suggest stopping what you are doing, and asking God to forgive you of your sins so God can begin to put your life together for his glory. Once you realize that God is working in you for his glory, everything your doing seems to make a bit more sense. The Lord God that we should all be familiar with is a God who is inescapable, awesome, loving God who also calls for judgment to give an account for the life that we have lived.

“God in his faithfulness not only blesses us with his best, but he confronts us with our worst” – Charles Stanley

Our Lord God is a faithful God. The question you have to ask yourself is, is the God that you have in your image a God that is reliable? Is he a God that never fails? If we were to define faithfulness of God, what would that look like? There are probably a few different ways we can define it. Here are 3 statements to help us define his faithfulness.

  1.  Will always do what he says and will fulfill every promise
  2. God never forgets, never falters, and never fails to keep His Word
  3. He is reliable, trustworthy, unfailing, unwavering, constant and steadfast

What makes it possible for him to be unchanging and always the same? Here are some characteristics that make it possible for us to trust him and rely on him every day:

  1. The Lord God is omniscient. Past, present, future. He knows everything all the time
  2. He is omnipotent. The Lord God has all power to do all things
  3. He is omnipresent. We are all in the presence of God

When people choose to live in sin and disobey God remember that God is omniscient. You will never be able to hide yourself or you sins from God. If you are a follower of Christ, be sure not blind yourself from his omniscience. In saying that God is omnipotent makes me think of people who are in need or grieving. Since God has all power over everything, we want him to be ever present in our lives. We come to God in hard times because we know he has the power to heal. When we makes mistakes he has the power to help us in our lives. He will be forever the same. We have a faithful God. Do you trust God all of the time? Does he leave you with out an answer? Do you believe that God has been unfair to you? See if you can ask these questions and put the three omni’s in your answers. Do they match up? Is the God that you imagine the God of these characteristics? In saying that God is omnipresent, it means that we are in the presence of God. Thank God for that. Are there times that you wish God wasn’t omnipresent? He doesn’t change, he will always be there. The Devils lie is that nobody will know. We want God to be everywhere all the time.

We sing great is thy faithfulness for a reason. We read His Word for knowledge in our lives. There is not a single aspect of life God his mentioned in the Bible. Who is this God that you pray to? Do you pray to a God who is omniscience, a God who is omnipotent, do you talk to a God that is omnipresent? One thing we do not have to worry about when we pray to God is that he will not change. We are not always the same, we need the Lord God to be unchanging. Rest in the fact that the God that you know is not changing his mind about you. Thank God he is never changing. Here is the basis that God is trustworthy and never changes:

  1. Psalm 56:3 “When I was afraid, I trusted in thee.”

  2. Psalm 62:8 “Trust in him always, ye people, pour out your hearts before him, for God is our hope.”

  3. proverbs 3:5-6 ” 5. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own wisdom. 6. In all thine ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy ways.”

  4. Psalm 36:5 “Thy mercy, oh Lord, reacheth unto the heavens, and thy faithfulness unto the clouds.”

  5. Psalm 119:90 “Thy truth is from generation to generation: Thou hast laid the foundation of the earth, and it abideth.”

  6. Lamentations 3:23 “They are renewed every morning: Great is thy faithfulness.”

My prayer is that God works wonders in your life. I pray that when you think of God you see him for who he truly is. Thank you God that you are never changing! Thank you God that you are omnipresent! If you are not a follower of Christ and would like to know more about this amazing God, please repent of your sins and ask God to come into your life to change how you view the world, the Bible, God, everything. Your life will be forever changed because you will have a faithful, reliable and never changing God in your life.

God Bless you Today
