To quote Colton Dixon, “There are days that are taking more than I can give,” Not only are the lyrics to this song great and encouraging, but it also sums up exactly what most of us feel in our every day life. With all of the everyday hustle and bustle of this increasingly busy culture, we tend to overwhelm our schedules with more and more “to do’s”. As some of these lists of things to do are absolutely necessary to make your day happen, e.g. making your first cup of coffee or tea to start your day, there are plenty of things that we do to make our schedule more full than we think. For starters, when you wake up in the morning what is the first thing you do before you get out of bed? I bet it might have something to do with your smartphone, checking the news, checking your FB page, looking up the weather (well that one is kind of necessary to be prepared for your day), but I imagine you know what I am getting at. I am going to propose you look at your mornings in a different way. Every second counts in this precious minute world we live in so lets live each second of our day in an uplifting manor. Think about it this way, if you turn on the news feed and all you see are headlines about war and conflict, that will effect the way you have started your day, negatively, but, if you open up the word of God, that will give you a whole new look on your daily affairs. Do not get caught up in the promises that technology has offered, life does not get easier, slow down, or give you balance. If you are looking for balance in your hectic life, what you need is for everyone and everything to not move. Am I right? If your kids need something more today than yesterday, your thrown off balance, if you have a duty that is more demanding today than yesterday, you are off balance. We do not need to talk about balance because we will never get it. What we can talk about though is abiding. If your day is taking more from you that what you can give, than take heart in this; God is calling for you to abide in him, he is calling you to give all of your worries and troubles and stress to him. Trust that God will and can take your heart and transform it into a heart that is full of joy and humbleness. I know it sounds like just one more thing added to your list of to do’s, but if you believe that the Bible is true, then be weary and threatened that you could be on a road to damnation. In Matthew chapter 7 verse 13 it states:
Enter ye in at the straight gate: For wide is the gate and broad is the way to destruction, and many there be which go in threat.
This is so important so do not over look it. The almighty God is saying COME TO ME, do not choose the broad way, Narrow is the path to righteousness, please follow Gods instructions and follow the way to forever. You can see over and over the Lord God pleading with his children to come home, come to him for you will have a great reward in Heaven. Let’s go back to your morning routine; if you start your day by opening Gods word, you will find clarity for your day (Acts 26:18), you will find out that you are a light and you should let it shine for all to see (Matthew 5:16), you will see God in a way that will captivate your heart because he is the almighty and supreme ruler. Look at Colossians 1:17,
He is before all things, and by all things consist.
I would encourage you to take a look at the verse right above it, vs 16 states that all of the power, all of the visible and the invisible were created by God for God. This means that all of our everyday stress can be consoled by the Lord God. He is crying out for you to seek him, abide in him, give him your heart, soul and mind. Don’t just take my word for it, read it for yourself, and hear the longing that comes from our God who wants to be with his people. Sticking with the song lyric theme, here are just a few that you clearly see Gods longing to be with mankind:
Amazing love! How can it be, that thou, my God, shouldst die for me! -Charles Wesley
This shows that the same God who created us has not left abandoned us to go blindly through life.
There’s the wonder of the sunset at evening, the wonder of sunrise I see; but the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul is the wonder that God loves me. -George Beverly Shea
In Psalm chapter 40 vs 5 David sings:
Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are us-word: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
The book of Psalm is a book of praise, worship, uplifting and real songs written to the Christian of yesterday and today to give us light, hope and encouragement that we serve a God who is bigger than any of our day to day tasks that we face. Let God call you home, his arms are open wide. Forgiveness is real and it starts with repentance. I pray that you will begin to abide in God by taking advantage of every single moment he has given you to weave the gospel into your day. From waking up in a bed that God gave you, to the warm water that God gave you, to the car rides to and fro, to your conversations with your co workers. Weave the good news into your life and the light of the Lord will shine through to others around you.
