Can We Know God Fully?

This is such a beautiful and rewarding experience. To get to know the Lord God is a must in Christianity. Ask yourself: What image comes to mind when you think about God? Is it loving? Is it terrifying? How about judgmental? All of these things can be used to describe the God of the Bible. Just know that when you break those down and dig deeper into the true meaning of God and what he is all about, these descriptions will be more like; Awesome, Holy, and all knowing.

First, lets dive right in to a truth that we must understand. God is incomprehensible. Only the spirit of God can fully know God. There is absolutely no way that we can fully understand and know God. We can know some of his love, power, wisdom and other attributes, but we can never really get all of it. There are two reasons why we can’t know God exhaustively; one is because of our sinfulness and the other is because of Gods greatness. Because of our sin we are hindered from seeing the fullness of God. Even when the day comes when we sin no longer, we still will not be able to see the fullness of God. This means that when we get to heaven, we will not be omniscience, we will not be God, but we will be extending our knowledge of God each day that we are in eternity. Just think about the massive thought that is. We will still never know God 100 percent. If your goal is to live and worship in God then this news will delight us! So the good news is that maybe we can not know God exhaustively, we can know God truly.

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 9. “But as it is written, The things which eye hath not seen, neither ear hath heard, neither came into man’s heart, are, which God has prepared for them that love him. 10. “But God hath revealed them unto us by his spirit: For the spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”

If the Spirit is the only one who knows God fully then we, as Christians, should be desperate for the Spirit of God. If you look at your life right now and ask yourself the question, “Are you desperate for the Spirit of God?” If the answer is no then it would mean that you have fallen content with knowing very little about the Lord God. If we have grown content with knowing little of God then are we really ever growing in Christ? If you want to know the glory of God then lets get desperate for the Spirit of God! Lets look into John chapter 16.

John 16:15 “All things that the Father hath, are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and show it unto you.

All that God has he gives to Jesus, and all that Jesus has he gives to us via the Spirit. Now do you see why being desperate for the Spirit is crucial in our walk of faith? Lets be a desperate people.

When we know God truly you will love God greatly. Routine religion and casual worship is no longer tolerable, and global mission is no longer optional. How can we not completely and totally spend our lives trying to get this message out there to all the tribes, tongues, and nations when we truly know the Lord God? Lastly, some thoughts to take with you on this topic are:

  1. Getting to know the true God of the Bible is a humbling journey. *Read Isaiah 66:2
  2. Its a personal journey. Read the Bible to “know God”. *Read John 10
  3. Also, it is an intellectual journey. Know that there are so many opinions about theology. The Bible discusses some things open for discussion.
  4. Its an emotional journey. God reveals how he “knows” his people  *Read Amos and Hosea

We could go on and on, but this is just an idea of what you are getting yourself in when you get to know the Lord God. What an amazing start to getting to know God. I will consider making a continued “Can you know God fully” Study in the near future. My prayer is that God will send the Spirit into your life to help you on your journey on getting to know the Lord God.

God Bless You Today
